Meet the Chamula – a handmade, tribal slow fashion statement cross-body bag made by a Mayan artisan from a village in the Chipas Highlands of Mexico.
Chamula Handmade Cross-body Bag
Named after its place of origin, the ‘Chamula’ is a one-of-a-kind, special cross-body bag that is destined to add a slow and spiritual fashion punch of colour to your everyday.
Hand-woven in wool and featuring handmade pom-poms in party time cerise (Mayan people do like to party), the Chamula hails from one of the trippiest, and out of the world places I visited one my journey into the Chiapas highlands of Mexico.
Acquiring this beauty involved a visit to one of the most cosmic, mind-bending Churches I have ever entered (keep your eyes peeled for my story on this Church).
Cameras are shunned in this village, which means I could not get a snap of the artisan. The good news is, I did manage to snap up this bag, which will make the ultimate gift to yourself or someone else who loves their slow fashion with a story.
100% handmade, slow fashion, ethically sourced, feel good fair trade fashion.
Note: This is a traditional and authentic from Chamula and is 100% handmade and features handmade quirks, which makes it so unique. Mayan artisans live in traditional mud brick abodes that have fires burning all day long and this little number is scented with wood fire.
